Mustang Trail

While still in the planning stages, the Mustang Trail will be a network of trails to connect the neighborhoods around Ennis to the school campus  and to Lions Club Park. The goal of the project is to make it safer for kids to walk or bike to school, and to travel to Lions Club Park for after school sports. Since the school campus is located in the center of Ennis, the entire community will benefit from the Mustang Trail.

Madison Byways is working with the community and a consultant to design a system of safer routes for traveling. This plan outlines needed infrastructure improvements. The first priority is to construct missing sidewalk along Main Street from Third Street to Lions Club Park.

Access
The main points of access to this network will be residential neighborhoods, the school campus, and Lions Club Park.

Funding
Madison Byways received $20,000 from Safe Routes to Schools to design a trail system that will make it safer for kids to walk or bike to school. For more information on the grant, click here.

With the assistance of the local government and the school district, Madison Byways will be applying for Safe Routes to School and Community Transportation Assistance Program funds to construct the connection to Lions Club Park.

Ennis Fishing Access Trail
1.25 miles

The Ennis Fishing Access Trail is a 1.25 mile loop established in collaboration with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. The trail loops through open grasslands and runs adjacent to the Madison River. It is an ideal location for bird and wildlife watching, accessible in the Spring, Summer and Fall to pedestrians, non-motorized bicycles, and dogs.

Access
The Fishing Access trail is less than a 1/4 mile from Lion's Club park in downtown Ennis. From the Lion's Club Park, walk or drive southeast on Main Street/Highway 287 Walk across the Madison River bridge. The Fishing Access is located just past the bridge on the right hand side. The trail head is located immediately after the fishing access.

The trail is being constructed in collaboration with Fish, Wildlife and Parks, with assistance from numerous volunteers. If you would like to help maintain this beautiful trail, click here

    Doc Losee Trail

The Doc Losee Trail will provide safe pedestrian and bicycle transportation from downtown Ennis to the Upper Bench area, including the:
    • Madison Valley Medical Center
    • Sportsman's Lodge
    • Madison Foods
    Access
The trail will run adjacent to the Valley Bank drive-thru and up the hill behind the hospital, with switchbacks near the clinic entrance, crossing between the hospital and the nursing home towards Highway 287. The trail will make use of the existing crosswalk adjacent to the Sportsman's to cross the Highway.

    Funding
Madison Byways received a grant from the Northwest Area Foundation, through the Horizons program, to fund initial design work for the project. Madison Byways is working on sourcing additional grant and private funding to finance trail construction costs.
